How Etsy Offsite Ads Can Change Your Profit
Compare how 0%, 12%, and 15% Etsy Offsite Ads assumptions can change an order estimate, including attribution limits and the $100 cap.
The three scenarios to test
- 0%: Model an order without an Offsite Ads fee.
- 15%: Model an attributed order for a shop below Etsy’s described $10,000 threshold.
- 12%: Model an attributed order for a shop at or above Etsy’s described threshold.
Etsy’s official material describes purchase attribution after an ad click followed by a purchase within 30 days. Confirm the current rule and your actual order in Etsy.
Side-by-side verified example
Example inputs: $50.00 item price, $5.00 buyer-paid shipping, $4.40 buyer sales tax, $4.00 actual shipping, $10.00 materials, $8.00 labor, $1.00 packaging, $2.00 other per-order cost, and one listing fee.
Without Offsite Ads:
- Estimated Etsy fees: $5.81
- Estimated profit: $24.19
- Estimated margin: 43.98%
With the 15% Offsite Ads scenario:
- Modeled Offsite Ads fee: $8.25
- Estimated Etsy fees: $14.06
- Estimated profit: $15.94
- Estimated margin: 28.98%
Difference in estimated profit: -$8.25.
These values reproduce the standard_no_offsite and same_order_offsite_15 formula-contract vectors.
The $100 cap
The modeled Offsite Ads fee is capped at $100 per order. The cap limits this fee component; it does not cap other Etsy fees or seller costs.
Avoid double-counting advertising
When an Offsite Ads tier is selected, do not enter that same fee again under “Other advertising cost.” Use that field only for a separate advertising amount you intentionally allocate to the order.
